Solo Show: Episode 3

Y’all,

This past week has been pretty great - went to visit a new studio space, Bad Indian was in Westword + Colorado Public Radio, and I have a photoshoot tomorrow for some Art/Comedy promo photos (plus I wanted to record what I look like at the beginning of my time in Berlin - what has been described as “Visibly American”).

Comedy show is Monday December 16th @ 8:00pm - RSVP is here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/urban-comedy-das-comedy-open-mic-mit-hip-hop-vibe-tickets-1090139098389?aff=ebdssbdestsearch

Art is still slowly cooking, and I’m hoping the new studio space will get the production flow optimized. Move in date is tentatively January 1st. One of the great things about the space is that it has a backyard. Hoping to have some Art parties/events in it this Spring/Summer.

Starting a new studio makes me think back to my past studios. May I present this video of the cleaning of my JXN Haus Studio from 2012? I kinda miss that 1996 Honda Accord. It had 4 wheels and just as many doors.

See ya!

Solo Show: Episode 2

Gandy tries some new jokes and wonders why Artists talk about themselves so much

Hey Y’all,

Big update this week is that I have a potential Art studio lead! Going to check it out on Monday and all fingers are crossed in hopes that it will be exactly what is needed - space & price-wise. I’ve completed some new Joke Texties this week and I’ll add some images to this post after I get to the design studio tomorrow to scan them. Forgot to mention that the BIG news in Berlin is that the government has cut 130 MILLION Euros from the culture budget - basically strangling the creative community here in terms of public funding. I have quite a few opinions on how the Arts are funded and how the money is distributed, but I’ll save it for a future video.

Most of my Artwork seems to be congealing/finding resolutions and I’m hoping that a new studio will be just what is needed to start some new pieces. I’m torn between two directions: 1. Making smaller work that will be easier to transport back to the U.S.A. if required and 2. Making larger work that my being is craving to see come into the world. I feel like the first option is very practical, but kinda defeatist because it assumes that no one will want to own and live with the work I create. I think I’ll just do both in the hopes that Berliners will want to own my work.

In the video I mentioned the Artist Dared. You can view his Art on his website here

“If he gets you dinner, he likes you. If he buys you toilet paper, he loves you. If he prescribes you Adderall, he is your doctor. You owe him 25,000 dollars. He knows where you live.”

Hope you have a great week!

Solo Show: Episode 1

Gandy talks about art, stand-up comedy in Berlin, and some new ideas

Hey everyone! So this is the new for me: free form expression in front of a camera. I’m aiming to post video updates once a week for an entire year, then reassess in 2026. The goal is to make something interesting for you to enjoy that is artsy, funny, and heartfelt.

Note: I thought glitching out the footage would be funny, but I have been informed by my supportive and caring girlfriend that it is “distracting” and I should “sit up straighter” :). In the future I’ll try to not play with the footage so much, but I’ll probably still slouch.

While we are talking about film making:

I forgot to mention in the video that a current project I’m working on with Jeff Stonic and Josh Emerson, the film Bad Indian, has started crowdsourcing funding for post-production. If you’d like to help bring Indigenous voices to the big screen, you can support here: https://seedandspark.com/fund/bad-indian#story . Every dollar helps us get closer to putting Josh’s story in a professional light.

Thanks for joining me on the journey so far and I can’t wait to see where this goes in 2025. Feedback is always welcome and makes the work stronger so please contact me or leave a comment with your thoughts.

May your cheeseboard be simple!
